Valentine’s Playlist

It’s Valentine’s Day.  That romantic time of year, when hidden love reveals itself, proposals are common place and couples are eagerly awaiting tonight’s romantic meal, gorgeous gift and early night.

Galentine’s Day is running alongside in perfect harmony.  Single girls, are grabbing their best ones and enjoying the dinners, champagne and fun.  This day is a day to celebrate love – no rules.  I draw the line at Valentine’s Day cards for pets and from kids to their parents.  Come on now, let’s not be weird!

I got married on this day a few years ago.  A happy accident, that most people think, is so romantic.  It was and still is but my husband and I, have had to learn to embrace, the logistical nightmare of our chosen date.  Valentine’s Day was special to us, it also fell on a Saturday the year we wanted to marry – that’s about as much thought as we applied to it.

With Valentine’s and Galentine’s Day in full swing, restaurants are always fully booked and flowers and other romantic gifts are ridiculously overpriced.  I also buy two cards for my husband, one to mark Valentine’s and one to mark our anniversary.  Clinton’s don’t cater for folk, that actually get hitched on 14th February.  Rather than face amateur hour, at a local restaurant; we often cook at home.  A nice steak, chilled bottle of wine, candles and us.  Tonight is no exception.  Supplies are chilling in the fridge, I have appointment at the beauty salon and my husband is leaving work early.  We can do restaurants and roses any time.

Radio stations have been playing their best love songs all day, trying to get everyone in the mood.  Jennifer Rush, Take That and Chris De Burgh don’t really do it for me.  I like a more soulful selection.
