Rants & Reflections

To My Younger Self

‘If I knew then, what I know now…’

I think this all the time.  I say it out loud often.  I suppose we all do.  The beauty and the beast, of knowledge and experience I guess.  Here are a few notes for my younger self:

Hello Beautiful Girl.

  • You are beautiful, every day, even when you don’t feel it or see it.
  • Don’t be afraid of failure, it can open many doors to better opportunities.
  • There is a big world out there beyond the playground and small minds.
  • Its ok, to not have all the answers.
  • Don’t be scared that you don’t have a plan.
  • Being single is a great time to work on you and put yourself first.
  • It is better to be alone, than with the wrong people.
  • Don’t follow the crowd, if it is not in your heart.
  • Chase YOUR dreams.
  • A bad result, bad job, bad relationship, will not define you.
  • You are so much bigger than a bad decision or a negative experience.
  • Don’t spend too long seeking the approval, love or respect of others; That needs to come from you.
  • You have so much to face but you will get through it.
  • Know that you can’t please everyone.
  • Love and allow love to find you.
  • You are enough.
  • Enjoy the journey.

I would have saved myself so much pain and time spent worrying, had I known all that before.

Success in anything is a process.  I am still learning some life lessons over and over.  I’m still anxious about my journey and destination for that matter.

I watched a YouTube clip today, featuring the wonderful Oprah Winfrey.  She was talking about her letter, to her younger self.  Many great words of wisdom, strength and kindness as you would expect.  Then this;

‘Relax.  It’s going to be okay girl.  See yourself with your own eyes.  Love yourself through your own heart’ – Oprah Winfrey

I needed to hear that 20 years ago, just as much as I needed to hear that today.
