The first wave of warm weather, recently revealed one thing – I’m still a little bit fat.
I hate carrying around extra pounds on a good day, let alone ones that require, less layers to camouflage them. Running around after my toddler, brisk walks with her in the buggy and generally being a stress head – can only do so much. I can’t afford swimming, gym memberships or pilates and yoga classes, so I need to find something low cost.
I hate running. It’s such a simple and free exercise to be involved in but I can’t bear it. If I don’t like it, I won’t stay motivated to do it. Spartan runs, ultra marathons and organised 5 – 10k races, are everywhere. People are jumping on that lycra bandwagon and giving it all they’ve got. I would rather be pelted with golf balls!
So…I am left with one option. The fitness DVD. One cost, no spectators, just me and my chosen fitness motivator. No flash in the pan, skinny for 2 months, Z Lister. I want someone who is fit, funny and has maintained that amazing body. Someone my age so I don’t feel fat and old. There is only one person I can think of. DVD in. T-shirt and trackies on. Press play…hello Davina!
My interest was already starting to wane, listening to all the waffle, warnings and guidelines. I am ready damn it! Baby in bed, husband working late, I have one hour – let’s do this!!
Ok breathing. Stretching. Damn – I’m fitter than I thought! Now the warm up…Oh Dear God!
It was in the moment, I realised the level of my laziness. How much of my body, had been occupied by my inner sloth. This was bad. The step touch routines, side bends and boxing moves, were fabulous. I was really getting into my stride. Then came the curve balls; sprinting on the spot and burpees!! I needed a better sports bra for starters and since having a baby, my belly could use a bra too! Zero girl power felt, when you’re leaping around the lounge, one arm round your boobs and the other round your gut!
I will persevere. I know many fit women who are perusing, the online extensive collection, of Fabletics. They are looking fine, toned and owning it. I will be loitering in the back somewhere, trying to find a corset, that I can wear underneath my XL T-shirt!
To be continued….
